Stable zirconia beads :Yttrium stabilized zirconia beads (YSZ) are commonly used in the field of electronic ceramics. Their zirconia purity is usually above 90%, and the stabilizer (yttrium oxide) content is mostly 3%~8%. High purity yttrium stabilized zirconia beads have excellent wear resistance, and because they do not contain impurities such as heavy metals, they can avoid contamination of electronic ceramic materials such as barium titanate and aluminum oxide during the grinding process. They are particularly suitable for raw material processing of sensitive ceramics (such as pressure-sensitive ceramics and thermosensitive ceramics) and high-precision electronic components (such as ceramic capacitors).

3 . The physical properties of zirconia beads
-Density: The density of zirconia beads is usually 6.0~6.5g/cm ³, which is higher than that of alumina beads (3.6~3.9g/cm ³). High density can generate greater grinding energy at the same filling rate, making it suitable for grinding high hardness electronic ceramic materials such as aluminum nitride and silicon carbide; But for lightweight powders that are prone to agglomeration, the filling rate needs to be controlled to avoid secondary agglomeration caused by excessive compression.
-Hardness and Wear Resistance: The Mohs hardness of zirconia beads is 8.5-9, and their wear resistance is much better than that of glass beads and alumina beads. In long-term grinding (such as ultrafine grinding for more than 24 hours), low wear rate can reduce the contamination of materials by bead debris, especially suitable for purity sensitive electronic ceramics (such as barium titanate capacitor ceramics, magnetic ferrite ceramics).
-Roundness and surface smoothness: High quality zirconia beads should have high roundness (sphericity ≥ 95%) and a smooth surface, which can reduce wear on the equipment lining during grinding and avoid material adsorption or scratching caused by rough surface of the beads, ensuring the uniformity of the slurry.
4 . Match the particle size of zirconia beads according to the particle size and grinding requirements
The grinding target of electronic ceramic raw materials is usually sub micron or nanometer sized powders, and the particle size of zirconia beads needs to match the initial particle size of the material, the type of grinding equipment, and the target fineness:
-Coarse grinding stage: If the initial particle size of the material is large (such as 10-50 microns), larger particle size zirconia beads (such as 3-10mm) should be selected to quickly crush the particles using their greater impact force, which is suitable for early grinding of equipment such as ball mills.
-Fine grinding/dispersion stage: When the target particle size is sub micron or nanometer level (such as 0.1~1 micron), small particle size zirconia beads (such as 0.3~1mm) need to be selected to break particle agglomeration through high-frequency shear and friction, ensuring uniform dispersion of the slurry. For example, when preparing ceramic thin film slurry for casting, zirconia beads with a diameter of less than 0.5mm are commonly used to avoid scratches or particle residue caused by large particle size beads.
