2 . Definition and Composition
High chromium steel ball is the abbreviation for high chromium white cast iron grinding ball. According to the national standard GB/T17445-2009 for casting grinding balls, its chromium content is ≥ 10% -14%. For special high chromium balls, the chromium content exceeds 14%, and the carbon content is generally between 1.80% -3.20%.
3 . Production process
Domestic wear-resistant material enterprises usually use medium frequency electric furnaces as the main body to melt high-quality scrap steel and chromium alloy materials, perform microalloying treatment and quenching of molten iron, and then use metal mold and sand mold casting forming processes. After high-temperature quenching and tempering treatment, martensitic matrix is obtained to achieve high hardness and wear resistance.
4 . Performance characteristics
High hardness: After high-temperature quenching and tempering treatment, the hardness can reach HRC ≥ 58, and the hardness of special high chromium balls is HRC ≥ 58. Some high chromium balls even have a hardness of HRC63-67.
Good wear resistance: Its wear resistance is more than twice that of ordinary low chromium balls and forged steel balls, and it has low wear during the grinding process, which can effectively reduce production costs.
Good toughness: After reasonable heat treatment, high chromium steel balls have a certain impact toughness, with an impact value greater than or equal to 3.0 J/cm ², and are not easily broken when subjected to impact loads.
5. Advantages of selection
Although the market price of high chromium steel balls is higher than that of low chromium steel balls, from a comprehensive economic analysis, their cost-effectiveness is higher. For example, in the mining industry, using high chromium steel balls has lower wear than low chromium steel balls. Producing the same amount of concentrate powder can save a lot of costs, while also extending the cycle of adding balls and reducing labor intensity for workers.
